  REVIEW:

It doesn’t sound glamorous, but the crew of the Titanic would argue that no one can ruin your day quite like The Lookout!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (of 3rd Rock from the Sun fame) plays Chris Pratt in The Lookout and has the perfect life.  He’s a high school jock with a beautiful girl friend and nothing but possibilities in his future.  That is, until one day he and his friends are in major car accident and his life changes forever.  He suffers serious brain damage and has to spend years learning to function in society again.  He gets help from his roommate, played by Jeff Daniels, who is blind and facing his own struggles.  Chris is eventually capable enough to get a job as a janitor at a bank.  Then one day he is approached by a pretty girl and her “guy” friends who convince Chris he needs to help them rob his bank by becoming their lookout.  Chris knows he should do something, but can’t figure out what to do.  He has to choose between his new friends and doing the right thing.  If only it was that easy.

The Lookout is a solid movie.  It’s pretty serious and sad in a way, and it takes a long, LONG time to get to the exciting part – the bank robbery.  But, it’s well made, has great characters, a unique story, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jeff Daniels deliver really strong performances.  As a result, you seem to get a real glimpse of the frustrations and struggles of living with a disability.  Still, the subject matter and slow pace keep this from being a movie for everyone.

  MOVIE NIGHT TRAFFIC LIGHT:

On the Movie Night Traffic Light on a scale of GREEN meaning “Go – it’s a must see”, YELLOW meaning “Caution – it’s okay” and RED meaning “No - stop don’t do it."

We rate The Lookout YELLOW.  Caution – the subject matter won't appeal to everyone.
